Founder

The National Organization for Deep Ocean Research (NODOR) was founded by Andrew Sherwin, a marine biologist from the Washington DC metropolitan area.

About Our Research

NODOR's main research methodology is to use a specialized trolling apparatus that will serve as a structure to hold both camera and baits and give us the ability to troll. Other organizations troll nets or lower submersibles to conduct their research. NODOR feels that our method of research will improve on the other two methods. Trolling nets does not let us see what the animals are doing and most of the time the animals are brought up dead. Using submersibles is very expensive and cannot cover the tremendous area that trolling provides. Also, submersibles might be scaring away the animals we are interested in seeing. Our methodology combines the best of both and does not scare animals away, but actually attracts them into the camera view in a more natural way by using baits and targets.
